Privacy Policy

Teller ("Teller," "we," "our," or "us") is a mobile-first storytelling application that transforms your personal photo collections into AI-generated stories. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we collect, use, and safeguard your information. This Privacy Policy explains our practices and your rights with respect to your personal data.

By using Teller, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the application.

1. Who We Are

2. Age Requirement

Teller is intended for users who are 13 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will take steps to delete such information promptly. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at privacy@teller-app.com.

3. Information We Collect

3.1 Account Information

When you create a Teller account, we collect:

  • Email address
  • Display name (as you choose to enter it — we have no format requirements)

We may also collect information through third-party sign-in services such as Sign In with Apple or Sign In with Google, if you choose to use those options. In those cases, we receive only the information those services share with us, typically your name and email address.

3.2 Story Content

When you save a story in Teller, we store the following content associated with that story:

  • Photos you selected as part of the story
  • Character names you provided
  • Notes or descriptions you entered
  • The genre you selected
  • The AI-generated story text

This content is stored solely for the purpose of rendering and displaying your saved stories within the application. We will never use your story content — including your photos, names, notes, or generated text — for any other purpose, including AI model training, advertising, or sharing with third parties, without your explicit written permission.

3.3 Payment Information

We do not collect or store your payment card information directly. All payment processing is handled by trusted third-party payment processors:

  • Stripe (for web-based purchases)
  • Apple In-App Purchase (for iOS purchases)
  • Google Play Billing (for Android purchases)

We retain only non-sensitive transaction records such as purchase history, subscription status, and transaction identifiers. Please review the privacy policies of these payment processors for information on how they handle your financial data.

3.4 Technical and Usage Data

We automatically collect certain technical information when you use Teller, including:

  • IP address
  • Device type, operating system, and browser information
  • Pages or screens visited and features used
  • Error logs and crash reports

This information is collected through our infrastructure and third-party service providers, including:

  • Vercel — our hosting provider, which may collect standard web traffic and performance data
  • Sentry — our error monitoring service, which captures technical crash and error data to help us diagnose and fix issues

This data is used solely to operate, maintain, and improve the application. It is not used for advertising or sold to third parties.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To create and manage your account
  • To generate, save, and display your stories
  • To process payments and manage subscriptions
  • To send transactional communications, such as account confirmations and email sign-in links
  • To send optional product updates and announcements (you may opt out at any time)
  • To monitor application performance and fix errors
  • To comply with our legal obligations

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for their marketing purposes.

5. Communications

We use Resend to deliver email communications. We may send you:

Transactional emails — such as account confirmations, magic-link sign-in messages, and purchase receipts. These are necessary for operating your account and cannot be opted out of while you maintain an active account.

Marketing and product emails — such as feature announcements, tips, and promotions. You may opt out of these at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any such email or by contacting us at privacy@teller-app.com.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account information and story content for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information and story content within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or financial compliance purposes (such as transaction records).

You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting privacy@teller-app.com.

7. Your Privacy Rights

7.1 All Users

Regardless of your location, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Opt out of marketing communications

7.2 California Residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including:

  • The right to know what personal information we collect, use, disclose, or sell
  • The right to delete your personal information
  • The right to opt out of the sale of your personal information
  • The right not to be discriminated against for exercising your privacy rights

7.3 European Union Residents (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Union or European Economic Area, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including:

  • The right to access your personal data
  • The right to rectification of inaccurate data
  • The right to erasure ("right to be forgotten")
  • The right to restriction of processing
  • The right to data portability
  • The right to object to processing

Our legal bases for processing your data are: (a) performance of a contract — to provide you with the Teller service; (b) legitimate interests — for application security and error monitoring; and (c) consent — for optional marketing communications.

8. Data Security

We implement industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information, including encrypted data transmission (HTTPS), secure infrastructure through Vercel, and error monitoring through Sentry. However, no system is completely secure. Protect access to your email account used with Teller, and contact us immediately at privacy@teller-app.com if you suspect unauthorized access.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the Effective Date at the top of this document and, where appropriate, notify you by email or within the application. Your continued use of Teller after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
